We Didn't Cross the Border, The Border Crossed Us (2016)

Melanie Cervantes
11.5 x 17 inches
1-layer, Handmade Screen Print. Split Fountain/Rainbow Roll
Open Edition
Printed in San Leandro, 2016

This print uses the phrase "We didn't cross the border, the border crossed us" which has been attributed to everyone from Jose Antonio Burciaga to the band Aztlan Underground. It is widely popular because it communicates the notion that the geopolitical border has imposed on peoples that have lived on this continent from time immemorial.

* Please note the background blend (or rainbow fountain) makes each print unique because it combines multiple colors, purple, lilac, orange and pink, to create the effect of a sunset in this print. Each print varies slightly and is unique.
