We come from the earth and the earth has no borders. I’ve been working with the image of the Tlatecuhtli, who created the world we walk on. This world was created by the gods to give us humans a place to live, their body and its features become the grass we walk on the flowers we find so beautiful and the mountains we stand in awe of. Never was the idea that they be cut up and become property. As a god they are talked about in both the feminine and masculine, although some argue that Tlatecuhtli has to be one of the other, I feel they carry both, just as we see the two spirit in contemporary Native Societies. Something that was part of Mexica society, as was documented when the colonizers arrived in Tenochtitlan and recorded seeing “men” dressed as “women” or trans folk as we would see them today.
